ABOUT JEFFREY A. MCKEE

For nearly forty years, Jeffrey A. McKee has built a reputation of trust through his firm's dependable and practical legal services, spanning civil and commercial litigation, business resolution and formation, creditor-debtor rights, personal injury representation, and estate planning. Clients trust Jeff's focus on the bottom line and their best interests, and his counsel is consistently designed to reduce legal expenses and mitigate risk.

Jeff has served for the past 15 years as an adjunct professor at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he brings the same practical, client-centered perspective to the classroom that has defined his practice for decades.

Beyond the courtroom and the classroom, Jeff is a lifelong student of history and he brings that sensibility to his estate planning work in particular. He understands that the documents guiding a family's future are not merely legal instruments. They are a record of what a person valued, what they built, and what they hoped to pass on. He approaches every estate plan with that understanding and with the care it deserves.

The firm of Davis, McKee is located in the charming 1920s historic district of Los Olivos known for its stately homes, rich history, lush landscapes, and architectural character just minutes from downtown Phoenix courthouses and governmental offices.

"The practice of law is the ultimate opportunity to assist others with resolving disputes and crises in their lives or to help with forming a successful business venture or planning their future well-being." - Jeffrey A. McKee

ESTATE PLANNING

An estate plan is, at its core, a document of intention. It reflects the decisions you made, the people you loved, the assets you accumulated through years of work, and the way you hoped all of it would be carried forward. Done well, it is one of the most enduring and consequential things you can leave behind.

At Davis, McKee, Jeff McKee approaches estate planning with the seriousness that personal history deserves. Every plan he prepares is thoughtfully tailored to the individual: to their family, their circumstances, and the legacy they are working to protect. The goal is never simply to complete a set of forms. It is to make sure that your wishes are clearly expressed, legally sound, and built to last.

Without a proper estate plan, Arizona law, not your intentions, will govern what happens to your property, your healthcare decisions, and your affairs if you become incapacitated or die. Jeff McKee ensures that your plan says what you mean, covers what you intend, and holds up when your family needs it most.

THE REVOCABLE LIVING TRUST

The cornerstone of most Davis, McKee estate plans is a revocable living trust — a legal arrangement that allows your assets to pass to your beneficiaries privately, efficiently, and without the delay, expense, and public exposure of probate court. During your lifetime, you retain complete control over all assets held in trust. You may amend or revoke it at any time. At your death, your successor trustee steps in seamlessly to administer and distribute your estate in strict accordance with your written instructions.

A revocable living trust offers significant advantages over a simple will:

  • Probate avoidance. Assets held in trust pass to your beneficiaries without court involvement, saving time, money, and the frustration of a public process.

  • Privacy. Unlike a will, which becomes a public record upon probate, the terms of your trust remain private.

  • Incapacity planning. If you become unable to manage your own affairs, your successor trustee can step in immediately — without the need for a court-appointed conservator.

  • Control over distributions. Trusts can be structured to hold and manage assets for minor children, beneficiaries with special needs, or anyone you feel should not receive a large sum outright.
